The NSSEO Foundation, Inc. provides financial support for the NSSEO programs and services that are not funded through the regular budget process. The Foundation has targeted development of after school programs and activities, activities that are an extension of the classroom curriculum, transition activities with a focus on community partnerships, and the NSSEO Parent Education Resource Center (PERC).

The NSSEO Foundation has an ongoing financial commitment to PERC. The PERC building, programming and parent supports are a significant focus of our fundraising efforts.

Additional fundraising is currently focused on purchase of a wheelchair accessible van, sensory room upgrades for our schools, construction of a greenhouse and our Mini-Grant program for staff initiated projects.

Mini-Grants

Each year the NSSEO Foundation funds projects proposed by staff members. Projects include sending our Deaf Academic Bowl team from Hersey High School to the regional and national competitions, literacy nights for families at Timber Ridge, overnight experiences for students at Miner, regular after school social activities for students with vision challenges, parent education nights for families of students who use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices at Kirk or Miner School and many more.

NSSEO staff are invited to apply for NSSEO Foundation, Inc. Mini-Grants at the beginning of each school year. Grants are open to certified and licensed staff, or professional teams including paraprofessionals. Priority will be given to projects that reflect research based strategies and techniques. Mini-grants are awarded up to $2,500 for projects that enhance the normal program budget supports, and may not supplant existing budgetary items. Services must be provided to special education students served by Northwest Suburban Special Education Organization. The NSSEO Foundation, Inc. is always willing to consider larger grants on an individual basis throughout the year when proposed by program administration
